Notes on the Galleries:

Portraits_
Along the same lines as the previous sites portraits. ‘Us’ in our environment, going about our daily lives, not realizing what we look like to an observer. And not caring, for why should we? Individually we make little impression or do little harm no matter our actions. It is only in the aggregate that our lifestyles begin to change the environment.

Natural_
It’s all around us, so why don’t we see it? Mountains, streams, insects just waiting to be looked at. As can be seen, I really like rocks. A never ending variety of shape and color, and they hold still for the camera. Yes, a preponderance of palms. I like their structure and variety with a parade of color too.

Highways_
We’ve all been on them, we all curse them,  but we love them. Our whole culture is now ‘them’. They’re a big part of what has made us great and what may be our downfall. They’ve allowed our families to move to the far corners and have allowed us to visit them whenever. We can ‘shop’ for anything, anywhere, anytime. They kill off thousands every year and yet we drive more, further, and faster. We build them, we fill them, we don’t really fix the problem. Can we? Should we?

Composites_
Because I can, was my first response to, “Why did you put that there?”. And the more that I put ‘that’ ‘there’ the more I enjoyed it. Years ago when I had an actual wet darkroom, I tried making composites. The harder I tried the more I was impressed by those who could. With the advent of the digital darkroom, it became relatively simple. But since it is, one is never really finished with an image. For the moment, the ones you see, are….finished.

Closer_
We spend so much of our time rushing from place to place that we miss the wonders around us. This series is of things that we normally would not bother looking at; a single leaf in the stream, a rusted barrel. It is true that the more you look the more that you will see. And a lot of it can be quite beautiful.

The Hands Project_
This project began as a show at McGuffey Art Center, Charlottesville, VA. I wanted to photograph the hands of all the artists there and display the images along with their work. The show will be held in July 2009. As I described the project to others, the opportunities kept coming in; a microbiology lab, sculptor’s  studio, restaurant kitchen, senior citizen band. As someone who made his living with his hands (carpentry) I find it ever fascinating watching hands and tools create something.

Link to the Past_
This link will take you to the previous version of my website. The majority of the pictures in the older site are not shown in the new site. If you remember an image and can’t find it, email me and I will see if I can locate it.

AVAILABILITY OF PRINTS_
Any of the images on this site are available as prints. My work is printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Papers. I usually use William Turner, which is a watercolor surface, heavy weight (310 gsm) paper. I use only Epson Inks. They are sprayed with Premier Print Spray which protects them from moisture and excessive UV damage. Prints are shipped flat, not rolled. For pricing and sizes please contact me at

Statement
I use photography to capture single moments. I use digital imaging software to enhance and isolate that moment from all those similar moments before and after. In some images I strip away all that is not meaningful. In others, a change in texture, color, or style will show the meaning.
Most of my imagery tells a story. In some cases the imagery is from a single photograph, in others, images are combined from several photographs. If you have any questions or comments I would like to hear from you.
